Backfill Restoration

Backfill restoration is crucial in new home construction as it ensures proper support and drainage around the foundation. When a home’s foundation is excavated, the soil around it is disrupted and can settle unevenly over time. Proper backfill restoration helps to prevent issues like water pooling, foundation cracks, and soil erosion, which can lead to costly repairs down the road. Additionally, by using the right materials and techniques, backfill restoration promotes better drainage, protecting the home from excess water damage and ensuring long-term stability. For new homeowners, investing in quality backfill restoration is essential for safeguarding the structural integrity of their property.

You have this beautiful, new construction home and it is your dream come true. One thing you did not consider is your soil settling overtime and the issues it can cause. After your home construction is complete the builder comes and backfills soil into the large void around your basement and home. Over time this soil, also known as the backfill, will settle creating a negative grade against your home. This negative grade means the water will be flowing toward your home rather than away from your home.

Hydrostatic Pressure

Once the soil starts to settle there will be increased water saturation around your home. This can lead to hydrostatic pressure. Hydrostatic pressure refers to a water pressure and is a major cause of basement leaks and flooding. Water weights just over 60 pounds per cubic foot. When the soil, or backfill, around your basement settles and is saturated with water, that could mean you have tens of thousands of pounds of hydrostatic pressure against your foundation.

Typically, your home builder will try to put in a solution, called a foundation drain, to prevent hydrostatic pressure against your home, but their solution of a drain is not designed to last. At best, you will get 5-10 years out of their foundation drain. Backfill restoration is the perfect solution to this problem.

Exterior Drainage Solutions

If your home is older than 7 years or so, it is likely you are having some variety of water issues at the foundation of your home. Backfill restoration will restore the soil around your home’s foundation. By doing so, you will add a positive slope around your foundation making sure that the water is flowing away from your home, rather than toward your home. Then, you won’t have to worry about the water entering your basement or crawl space. Additionally, backfill restoration will reduce the negative slope around your home. As a Dunwoody Landscaping company, servicing Dunwoody and surrounding areas, we have over 15 years of experience in backfill restoration.
